Egg Salad Sandwiches Go Beaujolais

Who says red wine can’t be paired with an egg salad sandwich? Not us. We recommend a Beaujolais to go with the humble egg salad sandwich. It’s fruity and light with low acid. That’s important because the sulfur from the eggs can become overwhelming if paired with a wine that’s too acidic. Beaujolais is light bodied. It’s not uncommon to chill a Beaujolais, even though it’s a red wine. Surprised? Stick with us, we’ll help you navigate the unexpected and the curve balls this crazy, nutty, fancy-pants wine world can throw at you.

A word to the wise, unless it’s November or December, you might want to pass on the what will likely look like a bargain priced Beaujolais Nouveaux. Beaujolais Nouveaux are released in the US prior to the holidays and pushed as a perfect pair for Thanksgiving and Christmas dinners. No doubt about it, a Beaujolais Nouveaux can be delicious but in recent years, there’s been quite a bit of controversy swirling around the Nouveaux version of Beaujolais. We say, stick with the regular Beaujolais and avoid getting stuck with something that could be disappointing.

Standard Beaujolais has the fresh, fruity flavor that balances well with the earthy egg salad sandwiches. It will keep the meal light and refreshing, enhancing the creamy flavors of the food with its profile of pear and soft banana tones. We can’t think of a better light supper or picnic with your sweetheart.
